Dear Friends:
We are ready to start the new school year in our Alas program! We have obtained backpacks for all of our students, and the backpacks will be stuffed with their school supplies, like notebooks, pens and pencils, rulers, scissors, crayons, sharpeners, and so on.
We are hopeful our current sponsors will continue supporting their student, and we also need to find a number of new sponsors. We currently only have 19 remaining elementary students, 2 secondary, and 3 high school students for whom we need sponsors. You can make a huge difference in a child and their family by helping them to stay in school, get an education, and become a more productive member of their community. In August, we will be handing the school supplies out to all of the kids and taking measurements for their uniforms, shoes, and their new Alas shirts. We will also be working with the post-secondary students to determine their budgets in college or technical school.
This year, our theme will be Proverbs 3:5-6, Fíate de Jehová de todo tu corazón, Y no te apoyes en tu propia prudencia. Reconócelo en todos tus caminos, Y él enderezará tus veredas. Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
When we think about how twisted our world has become, with the popular culture twisting TRUTH into whatever feels right for you, this will be a very timely theme to help keep them on track with trusting in the God of the Bible, rather than culture.
We would definitely appreciate plenty of volunteers to come with us in August to Palomas, as it takes a lot of people to capture all of the information we need about the kids and to distribute all of their school supplies. We will be leaving Santa Fe on Friday (some in the morning and some in the afternoon), August 7, with some returning Saturday evening, and others returning on Sunday. Volunteers have a choice of any of these options.

In July, we took a break from our regular activities to let the kids enjoy a day at a recreation area. Raymundo and Bere and Tere led the activities and teaching, with a number of volunteers to help out, and it was a fun day of games, playing in the pool, and ministry. Here are some pics!
